People of God

Post Categories

There is an unlimited acceptance within the term “People of God”. Do not speculate on the number comprising this group, for the salvific will of God extends not only to an individual person but also to all those who are in the unity of God’s love and in the love of their neighbor.

Christ died not for people as one group, but for all. He died, not only for Christians but for Moslems and Jews and others as well. All are called and united in the Spirit of God, in faith, and the bond of Freedom. To limit the number of people of the new choice of God is totally undesirable elitism. The people of God are the sum total of all the justified, and this would include those who are not now fully incorporated into the Church.

However, on all Christians is the burden of working to make the divine message of salvation known and accepted by all men throughout the world.

At all times and among every people, God has given welcome to whosoever fears Him and does what is right. (Acts 10:35) But it has pleased God to make men holy and to save them not merely as individuals without any mutual bonds, but by making them into a single people, a people which acknowledges Him in truth and serves Him in holiness. Therefore He chose the race of Israel as a people unto Himself. He set up a covenant with them. He did this, however, in preparation and as a figure of the new covenant which was to be ratified in Christ.

There are two covenants of God with mankind. The Israelites, acknowledged the covenant God made with them, but it did not always move them and lacked the spirit.( Is. 28: 14-15; John 8: 31-47; Rom. 9: 6-18 ) On the other hand God freely sought to bring a new “ choosing”, one that was realized through His divine Son and in His Church. (Mt. 12: 38-50; Mt. 15: 21-28; Rom. 8 and 10) .

Christ instituted the New Covenant, that is to say, the New Testament, in His Blood, by calling a people together made up of Jew and Gentile, making them one, not according to the flesh but in the Spirit. (1 Cor. 11: 25) This is the new people of God, reborn through the Word of the living God (1 peter 1:23), who in times past were not a people, but who are now the People of God. (1 Peter 2: 9-10)

One could say there are the chosen people of God and there are the people of God. The essential difference being that of two freedoms: The free choice of God in choosing a people, and the freedom of the individual in responding to God with love through faith.

All who are saved are saved only through Christ, your brother, Eddie
