Seven Capital Sins
There are seven capital sins or tendencies of fallen nature viewed as the fountainheads or prime sources of all sin.
These are habits rather than isolated acts. These are habits which are developed which make it easier to do evil than to do good.
The first of these sinful habits is Pride. Pride is an inordinate love of self which causes one to consider oneself as more to be served than God. Pride is the deadliest of them all. It is the most capital of all the capital sins. For it is at the bottom of all sin. For it is the beginning of all sin.
Pride has many people alive on earth today preferring their own desires to the rights of God, and to the rights of their neighbors, and even their own best interests.
You can see this in the gay rights movement which is going so far now as to demand gay marriage which is opposed to God. This prideful evil doing is being done by many who have no fear in their dictating to God what is right in their minds. But no matter how many times they think it or say it is acceptable to God it remains an abomination to Him.
Acceptance of this evil doing before the Lord forbids there being only that marriage(a food or sacrament of God )created by God for the good of mankind.
God warned us in His Holy Word that in the latter times there would be those who would turn away from the faith and heed deceitful spirits and things taught by them and lying men with seared consciences pretending to God while heeding Satan. (1 Timothy 4:3) They forbid what is of God by changing it to include a union between same sexes which is demonic. All who go along with this in anyway attach themselves to the sin of pride and are in danger of damnation.
Twist the Word of God and not only shall you still have no excuse for attaching yourself to this evil but you will twice sin against the Lord God Almighty!
There are those sinfully proud of their good looks, their talents, their intelligence, their education. Others are proud of their possessions: money, homes, cars, clothes, jewelry, property and so on. Some just think they are better than everyone else and even despise others.
Pride is a grasping for power. And great is the number of mankind in all stations of life who are grasping for power!
Pride is manifested in snobbery, vanity, vainglory, boasting, impudence, hypocrisy, rationalism, indifferentism, heresy, apostasy, taking of the Lord’s name in vain, blasphemy, not keeping the Lord’s day holy, cursing, profanity, ruthless ambition, uncharitableness, discouragement, lack of human respect, racism, slavery, doing what is forbidden by God and calling it good such as abortion and sodomy(Those who are black, as well as all others, must not attach themselves to these two evils in the name of civil rights. You cannot serve both God and Satan.), lack of honor and respect and love and obedience to parents as well as lawful superiors (Except when they go outside God’s will), murder, suicide, birth control, abortion, euthanasia, dirty jokes, immodest dress, creation of and a liking for bad books and movies and TV programs( Oh how Satan uses these mediums to spread all sin to the hearts and minds of people! How prideful indeed, to do these things unmindful of how they offend God and show hatred towards Him!), presumption, disobedience, haughtiness, unkindness, self-praise, ostentation, exclusiveness, exaggeration, stubbornness and quarrelsomeness.
The opposite of the sin of pride is the virtue of humility. The humble person realizes that compared with God he or she is nothing, and that without God has no good future. The humble person relies on the strength and grace of God and seeks to please God. And when the humble person does well, he or she thanks God.
The second of these sinful habits is Covetousness. Covetousness, which is the same as avarice, is an excessive love of and desire for worldly goods and possessions.
Covetousness is even encouraged in Christian churches today by leaders who should take a closer look at Luke: 12:15, and at Luke: 16:13-14, as well as 2 Timothy 3:1-9. They may have the biggest churches and ministries but if they do not repent of their avarice ways they will in the end have nothing but pain and suffering for all eternity, as will many of their followers. The devil would have them go unopposed in their perverting of Christians by falsifying the truth. But God will have it otherwise.
Take heed: Grab God’s grace to see the stupidity of these leaders acting in the name of God, who are acting as Jannes and Jambres did in Moses day. Heed this rebuke and every rebuke of the Lord.
Being thrifty and economical is not being avarice. We need a certain amount of money to live in this world. So saving and economizing is a good thing. But excessive attachment to money is wrong.
Covetousness is manifested in arrogance, greed, abusiveness, licentiousness, discontent, treason, pretense of religion or a relationship with Christ, adultery, deceit, cheating, harshness, hardheartedness, injustice, stealing, lying, fraud, perjury, and violence.
The virtue of generosity is the opposite of covetousness. It inclines a person to give freely of his or her time, money, or talents to worthy purposes.
The third of these sinful habits is Lust. Lust is an abominable vice consisting in an inordinate liking for, seeking or indulgence in, pleasures of the flesh. Lust is one of the greatest tactics of Satan in getting our souls. Other sins and vices spring from Lust which are most deadly, such as excessive indulgence in pleasure, distaste for prayer, and loss of faith. Lust often ruins health, both mental and physical. Lust sends more people to hell than any other vice.
Lust is manifested in impure thoughts, impure desires, impure words, impure deeds, self-love, masturbation, pornography, fornication, adultery, sodomy, pedophilia, incest rape, scandal, loss of faith, spiritual distaste ,hatred of God, and final impenitence which is the unforgivable sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
Opposed to lust is the beautiful virtue of chastity. Chastity subdues the inclinations and desires of the flesh and makes them obey reason and faith. Also the virtues of modesty and purity oppose lust. Moderation and purity in one’s personal life, in habits, attitudes, speech, dress and actions of all kinds is love of God and neighbor and it should be.
The fourth of these sinful habits is Anger. Anger is an inordinate and unbridled displeasure at real or imagined wrongs done to us. Anger is opposed to justice and charity. It is a disordered desire of vengeance. It is very often the result of uncontrolled selfishness and leads to quarreling, hatred, cursing, fighting and even murder.
Anger is manifested in revenge, hatred, strife, violence, profanity, irritability, indignation, murder, suicide, grumbling fault -finding and rudeness and insolence.
Meekness, mildness, and patience are the virtues which oppose anger. You are meek and mild when you are gracious with your dealings with those around you and you bear sufferings without complaint. Our Lord said: “Take my yoke upon your shoulders and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart.” (Matthew 11:29) Keep in mind that meekness by no means is a synonym for spinelessness, lest you enter another trap of Satan’s.
The fifth of these sinful habits is Gluttony. Gluttony is an inordinate love of pleasure in eating and drinking which is harmful to the body. Ordinarily it is a venial sin. But if a person, willfully, that is, knowingly deprives his or her self of the use of reason by eating or drinking to excess, then that person commits a grievous sin.
The drunkard is punished in this world and in the next. Drunkenness ruins the body and is often the cause of a person losing his or her soul. The drunkard deprives his or her family of a decent living and makes an outcast in the eyes of society of them self. Drunkenness leads to a lot of evil doing.
It must be said that there must be culpability for it to be a grave sin. It would not be grave in the case where a person was overcome once or twice because he or she did not realize the potency of the drink served, or if he or she overrated his or her own capacity to resist its effects. In such cases there is usually lack of premeditation and full deliberation which are necessary for mortal sin. Whereas someone who goes out to get drunk, or knows of his or her weakness but goes ahead regardless, is direct and premeditated in his or her drunkenness.
Gluttony is manifested in intemperance, impurity, coarse speech, dullness of mind, religious neglect, stealing, greediness, anger, fighting, and strife, ruin of health, early death, and endangerment of others lives and even their early death such as in drunken driving fatalities.
Moderation and Temperance are opposed to gluttony. Remember, the kingdom of God does not consist in food and drink, but in justice, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17)
The sixth of these sinful habits is Envy. Envy is an inordinate tendency to be saddened at another’s good as if that good constituted an affront to you. It is the chagrin, mortification, discontent, or uneasiness arising from the knowledge of another’s excellence or good fortune, accompanied by some degree of hatred and a desire to possess equal advantages. A person is envious when someone else’s success or prosperity saddens that person and that person considers this an evil to himself or herself. Likewise, a person is envious when he or she is joyful at the misfortune of another.
Envy leads to and is manifested in hatred, rash judgment, calumny, detraction, intrigue, pessimism, selfishness, cruelty, injustice, jealousy and other sins.
Brotherly love is the virtue opposed to envy. Brotherly love is proved by prayer for ones neighbor, and by rendering outward acts of kindness, by helping others in their needs-especially by the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
The seventh of these sinful habits is Sloth. Sloth, as a capital sin, is a special kind of laziness and indifference. It involves distaste for spiritual things or an unwillingness to strive for them because of the labor or sacrifice required. It is a sin against the love we owe God!
There is great disorder in the House of God today because of sloth, as well as because of the pride and arrogance of so many, especially ministers and priests. There is the convenience or laziness to the truth about interpretation of the Bible and thus the false beliefs allowing sins like abortion and sodomy in Christian circles. All who join with Satan and his arguments against truth in this hour of the last days will not be with Christ for all eternity as they claim. Being of the apostate Church, the one full of sloth, they will go before the Lord as cowards and traitors to the faith at the time of their death. Heed what you are hearing!
Sloth is manifested in religious indifference, hatred of the truth, hatred of those who speak it, carelessness and disinterest in what is really of God. As it is, at the moment, many slothful ministers and priests are leading the flocks of Christian Churches. They do utter certain truths, but they are nevertheless a hindrance to people being right with God as they also spout the believable lies and doctrines which are called good but which are evil and doctrines of demons.
Preaching the true gospel of Christ is not convenient, it is too hard many, it involves repenting, and correcting, reproving and appealing to the people in a great time of sin. It involves much prayer.
Not only is there not enough prayer, but there is very little prayer which is pure.
Laziness, disorder, deceit, procrastination, dishonesty, spiritual disgust of religious obligations and duties, distractions from prayer and from the truth are all manifestations of sloth. Sloth is a great plague upon Christianity today.
If you see a politician who is not habitually neglecting his or her duties to God, then you see a politician who is greatly persecuted, for that is how evil are the times. Will even one make it to heaven? Are there any who can withstand the attack of Satan and those under his spell should they be diligent in the Lord?
Who wants the truth? It makes things too hard. It causes problems. It goes against the tide of the fables so loved. Read 2 Timothy 4:3-4. Read it in diligence. For Diligence is the virtue opposed to sloth. For there is evil in the House of God, and without Diligence you will not be with God.
It will be very painstaking and it will require much hard work to be with God in this last hour of the last days, as He calls for lamentation and repentance.
It will not be easy to swim against the tides of convenience. There is religious indifference which lies to you saying that one type of Christianity taught is as good as another. And there is hatred of the truth.
Without God it cannot be done. Nor can you do it without great sacrifice and willingness to be hated for the sake of Christ. Things are that wrong in Christendom. They are that wrong in others faiths ad well which call upon the one true God.
But the greatest of all who are at fault are those calling themselves saved in Christ while embracing sin, all kinds of sin, believing in the false gospel of eternal security and in the notion that they need not change, even as God’s voice is thundering. God is not silent! God is not without a prophet of His in this time.
Christ is our all! Be with Him!
